Broadcom Inc. has announced the latest updates to VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), providing customers with a private cloud platform that combines the scalability and agility of a public cloud with the security and performance of a private cloud at a low total cost of ownership. The new features in VCF support digital innovation by enabling faster infrastructure modernization, improved developer productivity, and better cyber resilience and security. The platform includes native Kubernetes support, advanced enterprise-scale AI/ML workloads, and integrated data services capabilities to help IT optimize performance and costs, protect against threats, and focus on outcomes.
The latest advancements in VCF include the new VCF import feature, which allows integration of existing vSphere and vSAN environments into the platform without requiring a complete redesign of the customer environment, providing greater efficiency and faster time to value. VCF also now offers full support for vSAN Max and vSAN ESA stretched clusters, as well as VCF Edge for optimized configuration in edge use cases.
For developers, the new version of VCF simplifies application deployment and management with quick-start templates, easy network integration, and enhanced performance insights. Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) is offered as an independent service, providing rapid access to the latest Kubernetes versions for developers. VCF networking enhancements streamline setup and configuration, while VMware Avi Load Balancer offers self-service load balancing for DevOps and AppOps teams.
In terms of safety and resilience, VCF includes features like VMware Live Recovery, vDefend Lateral Security, ESXi Live Patching, and vSAN Data Protection to ensure private cloud integrity, higher availability, optimized network performance, and robust data protection. Dual DPU support and advanced security capabilities help protect against threats like ransomware and provide continuous system reliability.
To further optimize IT infrastructure, VMware vSphere Foundation has been updated to deliver faster updates with ESXi Live Patching, easier developer access through self-service infrastructure controls, an independent Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Service, simplified management through a unified console, and improved end user experience with single sign-on for all product components.
Broadcom expects VMware Cloud Foundation 5.2 and VMware vSphere Foundation 5.2 to be available in the third quarter of fiscal 2024. These updates help customers accelerate innovation, modernize their IT environments, and enhance security and performance within their private cloud infrastructure.
