VMware announces major Cloud Foundation update following Broadcom acquisition

VMware has introduced new enhancements to its private cloud platform, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), aimed at reducing complexity and meeting customer needs for deployment speed and cybersecurity resilience. VCF combines multiple software-defined offerings like vSphere, vSAN, NSX, and Aria, and the latest version, VCF 5.2, focuses on improving infrastructure management, developer experience, and security.

A key feature of the update is the VCF Import capability, which allows organizations to seamlessly import existing vSphere and vSAN environments into VCF without the need for re-architecting. This feature addresses a common request from customers and streamlines the migration to a private cloud environment. VMware has also introduced VCF Edge to support edge use cases at scale while maintaining a consistent experience across the infrastructure.

With an emphasis on platform consistency and resiliency, VMware aims to provide a simplified experience for developers and address the cybersecurity concerns of enterprises. The VCF 5.2 release includes features like ESXi Live Patching for easier patch management, vSAN data protection for improved ransomware defense, and vDefend security against lateral attacks.

Following the acquisition by Broadcom, VMware has reorganized its product portfolio and moved to a core-based subscription pricing model to simplify offerings and pricing for customers. The updates under VCF 5.2 mark the first major additions to VMware‘s product lineup since becoming part of Broadcom, reflecting a new integrated approach under the combined leadership.

Overall, the enhancements to VMware Cloud Foundation aim to streamline cloud infrastructure management, enhance operational efficiency, and provide robust cybersecurity features to meet the evolving needs of customers.
