Redmond, Wash. — The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft and several other companies from a federal program that helps employers sponsor foreign workers for green cards as part of a larger crackdown on alleged H-1B and J-1 visa abuse.
Vice President JD Vance said Thursday that Microsoft, Adobe and six outsourcing firms can no longer submit or have pending applications processed through the Permanent Labor Certification Program, known as PERM.
The administration accused these companies of misusing visa programs to replace U.S. workers with lower-paid foreign employees.
Redmond-based Microsoft is No. 5 among U.S. employers when it comes to using H-1B visas, according to data from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Amazon is No. 1.
