Amazon Falls Nearly 2.5% as Claude Cuts Bedrock’s Token Bill

Amazon AMZN, the cloud, commerce and AI infrastructure company, brought Claude Opus 5.5 to Bedrock and Anthropic’s native platform on AWS. Shares fell nearly 2.5% to $248.76 Wednesday, using Tuesday’s $254.98 close as the baseline.

The pitch is cheaper AI work. Anthropic says Opus 5.5 costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, 20% less than Opus 5. It estimates a 40% saving on typical workloads because the model also uses fewer tokens. AWS says Bedrock supports zero data retention by default for the model.

The picture puts Amazon’s $248.76 share price just $0.41, or 0.16%, below its $249.17 GF Value estimate. That narrow gap says little about the payoff from this launch. Lower cost per task could draw more customers into production use, but investors need to see whether that extra demand lifts Bedrock usage and spending across AWS.
