The S & P 500 was relatively muted Wednesday after the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, the personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index, showed that core prices remain elevated. Given that warmer-than-expected data and the dip in oil prices, Jim Cramer said he expected bond yields to pull back and stocks to rise. But that’s not happening because investors are waiting “to see what Nvidia has to say,” when it reports earnings after the bell. Separately, shares of Meta Platforms are up slightly after the company settled a social media addiction case brought by a coalition of state attorneys for $16.7 billion. Nvidia needs to beat analyst estimates and raise its guidance, but also provide more details on its relationships with hyperscalers and AI labs, which are increasingly looking to more customized chips for their businesses. On Tuesday, for example, OpenAI said that testing results for its new custom inference chip, developed with Broadcom, “show a significant performance advance.” Competition from these chips is a frequent topic on Nvidia’s earnings calls, and we expect CEO Jensen Huang to be asked about it again tonight. 3.
