In the fourth quarter of 2023, AWS posted hosting and cloud computing revenue of around $24 billion. Amazon, a premier online retailer globally and the top e-commerce platform in the US, had net sales surpassing $470 billion in 2021, rising from $386 billion the year before. Amazon’s array of products includes books, clothing, electronics, and music, and its famous creation, the Amazon Kindle e-reader. A significant portion of Amazon’s income comes from electronics and consumer goods sales, with third-party vendor services and AWS also contributing. Amazon facilitates third-party sellers to market their merchandise on its platform and provides cloud computing and hosting services through AWS to businesses. By the end of 2021, over 50% of the items sold on Amazon were from third-party sellers. AWS encompasses cloud computing and hosting solutions, a rapidly growing segment in online business services. It is among the top public cloud platforms globally, with 76% of a global survey’s respondents admitting to running apps on AWS. Besides AWS, other prominent cloud service providers are Microsoft through Azure, Google, Oracle, and IBM.
