Nvidia is reportedly in discussions to participate in a new funding round for AI search startup Perplexity. The round values Perplexity at more than $30 billion (approximately 41.5 trillion won), up more than 50% from $20 billion (approximately 27.6 trillion won) a year ago.
Tech outlet The Information reported the news, citing multiple sources. The investment size is expected to reach several billion dollars. Neither Perplexity nor Nvidia has issued an official statement.
Perplexity’s annualized revenue has more than tripled from under $250 million earlier this year to over $750 million (approximately 1 trillion won) recently. Driving the growth are its AI search subscription service and “Perplexity Computer,” an AI agent product for professionals. The product is designed to let AI autonomously perform various tasks on a computer, competing with similar offerings from OpenAI and Anthropic.
Nvidia had previously considered licensing some of Perplexity’s technology for billions of dollars and absorbing some of its staff, but reportedly shifted discussions toward a conventional equity investment. The two companies already established a partnership in March when Perplexity joined the Nvidia-led “Nemotron Coalition.” Perplexity plans to deploy Nvidia’s next-generation CPU “Vera” for AI agent workloads and has also signed a chip usage agreement through CoreWeave, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia.
