Nutanix and accelerated compute platform ChronoScale have announced a strategic partnership aimed at connecting enterprise infrastructure with external GPU capacity and managed AI services.

The companies plan to integrate their platforms so enterprises can access ChronoScale’s GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS), Token Factory for prepaid inference capacity, and ChronoScale Foundry for locally deployed agentic AI workflows alongside Nutanix’s enterprise AI software.

The more important part of the partnership is the infrastructure model it points to. Instead of enterprises having to choose between building their own GPU infrastructure and relying entirely on external AI services, the two companies are proposing a model that connects the two.

The infrastructure problem is changing

The economics of enterprise AI are different from those of conventional cloud applications. Companies can provision general-purpose compute based on relatively predictable workloads. AI introduces another variable: GPU demand can change significantly depending on model size, inference volumes, experimentation, and the number of AI applications moving into production.

Buying enough GPU capacity to handle peak demand can leave infrastructure underused at other times. Relying entirely on external capacity, meanwhile, can raise concerns around data governance, sovereignty, security, and cost predictability.

This is where the Nutanix-ChronoScale partnership is positioned. ChronoScale plans to use Nutanix software…
