Introduction: Google must give UK publishers the ability to block AI search summaries, competition watchdog says

The UK competition regulator has announced that web publishers and news organizations will now have the option to opt out of AI overviews Google Search results.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the new rules would “put publishers such as news organizations in a stronger position to negotiate content deals with Google.”
The intervention comes after complaints from media organizations that they have seen a decline in click-through traffic to their websites – and therefore their revenue – since Google began publishing AI summaries at the top of search results.
