Oracle is set to invest more than one billion dollars in opening a new OCI regional cloud region in Madrid, catering primarily to the financial sector. The focus of this cloud region will be on providing enhanced resiliency for workloads, improved security features, and advanced AI capabilities. By establishing this new cloud region, Oracle aims to help companies in Spain comply with European laws and regulations, particularly those pertaining to the financial sector.

This will be Oracle’s third cloud region in Spain, following the establishment of a previous OCI region and a dedicated European sovereign cloud environment. While the new cloud region is targeted towards Spanish companies in the financial sector, existing customers can also benefit from this regional cloud environment by moving their mission-critical workloads to leverage various technologies for enhancing data, applications, and business processes. These technologies include expanded database, container, and AI capabilities.

In addition to offering cloud and AI services, the new cloud region in Spain will enable companies to adhere to local laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, especially those within the EU. This includes compliance with the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) and the European Outsourcing Guidelines for the financial sector. Companies can also take advantage of the European Sovereign Cloud environment established by Oracle in Spain to store sensitive data locally within the EU region.

The availability of the European Sovereign Cloud environment in Spain will offer companies extensive control over their data and infrastructure, facilitating compliance with regulations and enabling the utilization of Oracle’s AI capabilities effectively. The new Spanish OCI cloud environment will be hosted in data centers owned by Telefónica España, a major Spanish telecommunications company.

Overall, Oracle’s investment in the new OCI regional cloud region in Madrid underscores its commitment to providing advanced cloud solutions tailored to meet the specific needs of companies in Spain, particularly those in the financial sector. This move not only enhances Oracle’s presence in the region but also positions the company as a key player in enabling businesses to leverage cutting-edge technologies for improved performance and compliance with regulatory requirements.
