Microsoft holds open house for Granger data center project

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Microsoft held an open house at the Century Center for its proposed Granger data center project, drawing residents and government officials.

Attendees included Bill Schalliol, executive director of economic development for St. Joseph County, and Jamee Decio, Democratic candidate for Indiana’s 2nd House District.

Microsoft’s proposed site plan calls for six data center buildings. Five of the six buildings would be located by the Indiana Toll Road near a residential area.

Protesters rally outside venue

The event began around 4 p.m. and was scheduled to continue until 7 p.m. Some people gathered outside Century Center to rally against the project, saying Microsoft has not given them answers to their concerns.

The event was open to the public with a security check. Information stations specialized in electricity, water and environment issues.
