Dimension, a virtual production studio known for projects such as “Masters of the Air” and “Those About to Die,” is expanding its relationship with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Arch platform technologies to establish the largest virtual production operation in the cloud. The decision to select AWS as the preferred cloud provider will allow Dimension to scale virtual production workflows efficiently, while leveraging the Arch platform to optimize virtual desktop infrastructure for enhanced performance, storage, and real-time capabilities.
Led by CTO Callum Macmillan, Dimension and its division DNEG 360 are working with major entertainment companies like Apple, Sony Pictures, Amazon MGM Studios, Netflix, and more on virtual production projects for feature films and episodic content. They operate some of the world’s largest LED volumes and other specialized capture stages, building custom studio setups around the globe.
Working with AWS, Dimension utilizes various services to support compute, storage, and workstation needs, as well as AWS Deadline Cloud for cloud-based rendering pipelines. Through their collaboration with AWS and Arch, Dimension aims to adapt quickly to changing business demands, remote collaboration with filmmakers, and efficient virtual production environments.
The Arch platform enables the creation and deployment of secure global installations in just one hour, with the ability to scale and manage demanding creative workflows seamlessly across multiple locations. This partnership allows Dimension and DNEG 360 to embark on their next phase of growth by supporting their global operations and enhancing production capabilities.
With upcoming projects like “HUMANOID,” “2040,” and “Campbelltown ’69,” Dimension and DNEG 360 are using Arch’s platform to streamline their creative content production. Arch Platform Technologies provides a platform-as-a-service that facilitates the management and scaling of compute and storage resources for demanding workflows, ensuring secure, flexible, and cost-effective cloud workstations, storage, and compute farms.
By combining the capabilities of AWS and Arch, Dimension is poised to lead the way in virtual production with cutting-edge technologies and scalable solutions. This strategic partnership will enable Dimension to continue pushing the boundaries of virtual storytelling and immersive experiences in the entertainment industry.
