Nvidia reports first-quarter results as chip stocks rise on strength of AI

AI heavyweight Nvidia (NVDA) will report its first-quarter results on May 20, in what is easily one of the most anticipated announcements of earnings season.

Nvidia’s report results come as CEO Jensen Huang travels to China with President Trump for his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, helping drive the company’s shares to all-time highs and boost its market capitalization to $5.5 trillion.

Investors are watching what’s happening in China to see if Trump and Xi can reach an agreement on shipping Nvidia chips to China. Nvidia said that while the US government had granted the company a license to ship its H200 processors to the country, China had not granted it an import license.

During an interview on an April 30 episode of the Special Competitive Studies Project’s “Memos to the President,” Huang explained that Nvidia no longer has market share in China.

“Nvidia, as you know, had about 90 percent of the world market share”…
