For long, tech insiders would snigger at Apple for missing the AI bus. However, the company first integrated Gemini with its Siri and is now providing Perplexity’s AI agents to all Mac users. The AI startup announced that its Personal Computer – similar to OpenClaw and other local AI agents – would henceforth be available as a desktop app.
“It operates on a Mac or Mac mini, running tasks across your local files, native Mac apps, the web, and Perplexity’s secure servers,” Perplexity says in a blog post. It can work with local files and native Mac apps, operate on the open web, and orchestrate tools, files, 400+ connectors, and personal context in a secure development sandbox on Perplexity servers.
Perplexity had created the Personal Computer as an extension to their general-purpose multi-modal digital worker which was called Perplexity Computer then. It has been designed to bring personal computing capabilities with an AI edge to the devices. And this is achieved by allowing AI agents to access local files, applications, and connectors, and the internet to handle the user’s workflows.
Says the blog: “Ask it to organize project materials across folders. Have it compare two documents and produce a summary of the differences. Let it work across native apps to assemble a draft, prepare a report, or set up the next stage of a project. Instead of a document, create a live dashboard.”
