If you’re an Android phone user in Alabama, you might be in line for a little cash thanks to Google.

The tech giant has agreed to settle a federal class-action lawsuit claiming that Android devices were secretly consuming users’ cellular data even when phones were idle or connected to Wi-Fi.

The case, Taylor et. al. v. Google LLC, alleged that Android phones sent background data to Google servers without clear disclosure or consent. Plaintiffs said this quietly consumed cellular data that people paid for, raising privacy and consumer concerns.

Google denied any wrongdoing, and no court officially ruled on the claims.

To avoid years of litigation, Google agreed to a $135 million settlement that includes changes to Android’s background data disclosures and to how users give consent. “No admission of wrongdoing,” Google notes, but Alabama users could still see some compensation.
