Australia’s regulator has sounded the alarm at major banks, warning of the serious damage sophisticated AI tools could do to cybersecurity defenses and urging them to strengthen safeguards around critical systems.

In meetings with major banks, Australia’s Prudential Regulation Authority told directors it wanted a closer look at how artificial intelligence, such as Anthropic’s Claude platform, could change the nature of hacking.
