Elite Wall Street law firm Sullivan & Cromwell has told a court that a key filing it filed in a high-profile case contained errors attributed to hallucinations generated by artificial intelligence.
Andrew Dietderich, co-head of the company’s global restructuring group, apologized for the series of errors, which included inaccurate quotes, in a letter to New York federal judge Martin Glenn on Saturday.
The errors uncovered by the law firm Boies Schiller Flexner (BSF), which also worked on the case, included misciting the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and misciting cases in a filing April 9.
In several cases, S&C, which employs more than 900 attorneys and has one of the best reputations for corporate work in the U.S., submitted inaccurate summary conclusions that were made using AI in other cases.
