NSW Man Jacques Bergh is only reluctantly familiar with this “demoralizing” task.

He was laid off for the second time in his career this year and has spent nearly five months customizing resumes and cover letters for over 100 positions.

During this time, Bergh has only received a response twice.

“I had two interviews where I thought I could get the job. But other than that there was just no response,” Bergh told Nine.com.au.

“It is absolutely baffling and so frightening that you only ever get the same auto-generated response from an email server.”

Bergh, 55, was fired from his senior marketing position earlier this year.

Redundancy is not personal. But it can still be a devastating blow to a person’s pride.

And every rejection email brings Bergh back to square one.
