Amazon is confident that its Starlink rival, Leo, will be able to deliver high-speed satellite internet to professional golf tournaments this year.
On Monday, the company announced a partnership with DP World Tour, formerly the PGA European Tour. The plan is to use Leo for on-site internet access since the events are often based in rural and remote areas without access to optical fiber.
Leo promises to fill the gap by supplying satellite internet to “live scoring and broadcast production to merchandise sales and the fan experience at events,” along with parking lots, Amazon said. This includes blanketing the tournament venues with Leo satellite dishes, including the portable Leo Nano, the standard Leo Pro, and the Leo Ultra antenna, which was designed to deliver gigabit internet speeds.
