Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) has chosen Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to power its mobile app for farmers, IFFCO Kisan Uday. This app, built on OCI as a cloud-native platform, allows farmers to easily book, view, and manage IFFCO nanofertilizer sprays using drones.
IFFCO aims to uplift farmers and enhance their crop productivity and socio-economic status. The company recently introduced IFFCO Nano Urea Liquid and IFFCO Nano DAP Liquid, along with the Kisan Drone project, to make a positive impact on farmers and India’s economic growth. By leveraging OCI, IFFCO can promote sustainable agriculture and handle the anticipated surge in data volume, which is expected to increase by 100-fold.
Established in 1967, IFFCO is a leading cooperative that serves 55 million farmers through 36,000 member cooperatives. After a successful trial period, IFFCO selected OCI for its high performance, scalability, and seamless integration capabilities with third-party applications to support the Kisan Drone project. This project utilizes advanced drone technology to provide real-time data to farmers through the IFFCO Kisan Uday app, collected by 2,500 IFFCO Kisan Drones.
IFFCO utilizes OCI Media Flow and OCI Media Streams to process intricate video content captured by the drones, which includes various data points such as location, area of nanofertilizer sprayed, battery status, altitude, and more. Additionally, OCI Compute Virtual Machines allow IFFCO to adjust computing capacity dynamically based on the increasing volume of data collected by the drones.
Shailender Kumar, senior vice president and regional general manager at Oracle India and NetSuite JAPAC, highlighted the significant technological advancements in the Indian agriculture market. He emphasized how OCI can help IFFCO revolutionize agricultural practices, drive positive changes in rural communities, and contribute to the prosperity of Indian farmers.
Overall, the collaboration between IFFCO and OCI signifies a commitment to leveraging technology to benefit farmers, enhance agricultural practices, and ultimately contribute to the economic development and well-being of rural communities in India.
