HPE’s $14bn Juniper Networks deal under investigation by UK authorities

HPE and Juniper have announced a $14 billion merger to enhance their AI-native networking offerings, but the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation due to concerns about potential competition issues in the UK markets. The CMA is seeking feedback and comments on the deal by July 4, with a decision on whether to proceed with a deeper investigation due by August 14.
Juniper Networks, known for its networking technology products with a focus on AI, caught HPE’s attention, leading to the proposed merger. If approved, Juniper CEO Rami Rahim will head HPE’s combined networking business, reporting directly to HPE’s President and CEO Antonio Neri. The companies aim to accelerate innovation across various areas, including compute, storage, networking, silicon, systems, software, campus, branch, data center, and wide area network.
HPE, which originated from the split of Hewlett Packard’s consumer and enterprise businesses, has been expanding rapidly through acquisitions, creating jobs and focusing on AI technology. HPE Ireland Managing Director Ray McGann recently discussed leadership in the technology sector and the impact of the EU AI Law in an interview.
