Botetourt Chamber of Commerce endorses Google data center project

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – The Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce has expressed support for Google’s planned data center in the Greenfield area, calling it a transformative investment for the county.

The chamber issued a statement on Thursday backing the project, which county leaders say will eventually bring in around $30 million in annual tax revenue that can be reinvested into schools and public safety. That is more than any other business in the area.

“This puts Botetourt on the map in a very different way. I think attracting an investment like this signals that our region is competitive and that it’s ready for significant growth in the future, now and again in the future. So I think there’s a lot of good that can come out of this,” said William Nelms, board president of the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce.
