MCould it be that the “H” in “Line Of Duty” stands for “hard drive”? After all, AI has become the quintessential villain on television, as was proven once again last week in the penultimate episode of BBC’s The Capture. The sinister puppet master Simon was finally exposed and – spoiler – he wasn’t human.
“Wait, Simon is a computer?” a confused agent asked. “He’s a little more than that,” replied a smug army boss. “We use AI to support, map, execute and command missions. Simon considers more risks and variables than you can know on the ground. Tell him your objective and he will calculate your mission and recalibrate it for you in real time. The statistics don’t lie. Simon saves lives.”
