U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has reportedly summoned the heads of major American banks to a meeting in Washington this week amid concerns about the cyber risks posed by Anthropic’s latest AI model.
Following the release of the Claude Mythos AI model, which Anthropic says poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks, bosses including Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell are said to have gathered at the Treasury Department headquarters for the meeting.
A recent leak of Claude’s code prompted the startup to publish a blog post earlier this month saying that AI models had “outperformed all but the most skilled humans in finding and exploiting software vulnerabilities,” adding: “The consequences – to the economy, public safety and national security – could be severe.”
This week’s meeting was reportedly called while bank bosses were already in Washington for a meeting of the lobbying group. The guest list mainly included the heads of systemically important banks – i.e. supervisory authorities…
