Microsoft Is Finally Fixing Windows 11’s Web App Problem. It’s About Time

Web apps don’t really belong on Windows 11 PCs, despite Microsoft’s recent obsession with them. Instead, the operating system should serve as a platform for powerful, unique applications that run best on a PC.

Technologies, such as Electron and WebView2, certainly help web apps blend in on a modern Windows desktop, but they consequently make the OS feel like little more than a glorified web browser. If Windows primarily becomes a way to launch web apps, why run it at all? Why not switch to a Mac that bundles a collection of cohesive, high-quality desktop apps or a Chromebook that runs web apps just as well? 

Microsoft hasn’t had a good answer to that question as of late. But now, the company says it hears this feedback and seemingly plans to embrace native Windows apps once again.
