Outrage as Oracle submits thousands of requests for foreign workers amid layoff bloodbath

Like thousands of Oracle employees woke up on Tuesday to an email When told they were being laid off, the workers probably didn’t know that the tech company was busy hiring foreign staff.

According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Oracle submitted approximately 3,126 applications to hire H-1B workers in fiscal years 2025 and 2026. Employers must submit the paperwork if they want to hire foreign workers in specialty jobs such as technology. This year alone, around 436 of these petitions were submitted.

Amazon, which announced this in January 16,000 employees in the companyfiled approximately 2,675 H-1B petitions in the same two-year fiscal year. This came in addition to news in October that the retail giant would be cutting 14,000 corporate employees.
