A few weeks after widespread speculation that HR tech giant Oracle was considering massive staff cuts to fund its AI projects, layoff notices began this week.
Thousands of Oracle employees were reportedly laid off on Tuesday. However, some employees have described the number of users on an internal Slack platform falling from 165,000 to 155,000 this week other reporting suggests the total number of employees cut could be closer to 30,000 Estimates predicted earlier this year.
According to a report in, the news was communicated to employees via email business insiders, Affected employees — in the U.S., Canada, India and other regions around the globe — were immediately locked out of the company’s internal system when the emails were sent at 6 a.m. ET. The statement cited “Oracle’s current business needs” and efforts to drive “broader organizational change” as factors in the decision.
