Oracle is laying off thousands in the latest sign of difficult times for the technology industry

Software giant Oracle began laying off employees on Tuesday to curb costs and increase its use of artificial intelligence.

On LinkedIn, Oracle employees, including software engineers, account executives and program managers, publicly shared that they were affected by a mass layoff at the company and were looking for new jobs.

oracle was founded in California but moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas in 2020.

The company, which sells software and other services that help companies manage and store data, has not publicly disclosed how many jobs were eliminated. CNBCCiting people familiar with the matter, the company reported that Oracle would cut thousands of workers. As of May 2025, Oracle employed 162,000 people.

Oracle has offices around the world, including in California in Irvine, Santa Monica, Redwood City and Santa Clara. It is unclear whether the mass layoffs also affected workers in California. Oracle declined to comment.
