Software developer loses procedures after using AI

A Sydney-based Java software developer who was sacked after becoming “ungovernable” due to his use of AI to send emails at work and in meetings, among other things, has lost his unfair dismissal case at the Fair Work Commission.

Engineer Marcus Wibmer admitted to “collaborating” with AI to create a series of emails regarding a workplace bullying complaint and requesting assistance in meetings.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) found this contributed to communications being “dense, repetitive and often rambling” as well as “demanding and overbearing”.

According to FWC, the use of AI escalated what began as a relatively simple bullying issue into a broader dispute involving the company’s dress code, allegations of sexual harassment, “ill-informed” claims about whistleblower protections and arguments about natural justice.

Ultimately, the commission concluded that Wibmer had become “ungovernable,” in part because of his reliance on AI to communicate in the workplace…
