The state government is encouraging Western Australians caught by AI-driven traffic cameras to contact the already under-pressure Department of Transport as more motorists raise concerns about the fines being issued.
More than 40,000 fines have been issued in the last six months. Motorists who were given fines after being filmed by AI traffic cameras fought in court.
Sean Sheriff’s wife was filmed by an AI camera untying her belt from her sore waist on Christmas Day last year.
Her husband was fined $550 and forfeited eight penalty points for the violation.
The 80-year-old woman has since died of cancer.
