Homegrown software giant Atlassian is cutting nearly 500 jobs from its Australian workforce as artificial intelligence reduces its workforce needs and seeks funds to invest in the emerging technology.
CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes announced in a pre-recorded video posted online that 10 percent of the company’s global workforce, equivalent to 1,600 positions, would be laid off.
“We don’t make – I don’t make decisions like that lightly,” Mr Cannon-Brookes said.

“I made this call because I believe this is the right decision for the long-term health of Atlassian.”
The company said it emailed employees within 20 minutes of posting the video to let them know whether their role was affected.
