The UK’s Society of Authors is introducing a logo to mark books written by humans, not AI

The Society of Authors (SoA) has launched a program to help identify human-written works in a market increasingly flooded with AI-generated books.

The program, the first of its kind to be launched by a UK trade association, allows authors to register their books and download a Human Authored logo to display on the back of their book.

The SoA said the lack of any government action to force tech companies to label AI-generated results means readers will have difficulty distinguishing between human-written books and machine-generated works based on AI models trained on copyrighted works without permission or payment.

It mirrors a similar program that the Authors Guild launched in the United States in early 2025.
