Do you remember the class clown at school? Maybe you were the fool who caused chaos to entertain, distract and amuse.

Well, Travis Marshall from Woonona in the Illawarra region of New South Wales is a self-proclaimed Australian larrikin who invokes fool’s privilege.

And now his use of artificial intelligence (AI) in satirical videos about his hometown is going viral, raising questions about trust, authenticity and reputation in the age of AI.

“I received the award for class clown in Year 12, so I’ve always been a bit of a clown, and yeah, maybe that’s reflected in my work,” Marshall said.

Last October, the amateur videographer began using OpenAI’s Sora2 video generator.

“(That) made it easier to create videos, so I started playing around with it,” Marshall said.

In addition to death threats, he also receives messages asking him to move on.

“At first I got some hate, death threats and stuff like that, but I think it’s because AI is so new and maybe scary for them.”
