Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, is reportedly planning to invest $30 billion (£22 billion) in OpenAI’s next round of funding after a $100 billion deal between the two was unraveled earlier this month.
The maker of ChatGPT is expected to be valued at $730 billion in the funding round, almost twice as much as Anthropic, one of its main competitors, which raised $30 billion earlier this month.
Nvidia’s announcement of a $100 billion investment in OpenAI last September sent the chipmaker’s stock soaring to over $5 trillion and sparked heated discussion about circular deals between the biggest players in artificial intelligence.
The investment, which the chipmaker described as a “letter of intent,” would have seen Nvidia give money to OpenAI to purchase and deploy its chips for its AI infrastructure.
That appeared to change earlier this month when reports emerged that Nvidia’s intention was never a firm commitment – and OpenAI was looking elsewhere for chips to power its systems. The news shocked the markets, which…
