European publishing and legal software companies saw their share prices fall sharply after US artificial intelligence company Anthropic announced a tool aimed at corporate lawyers.
Shares in British publishing group Pearson fell 4%, while shares in information and analytics company Relx fell almost 11% on the London Stock Exchange and Dutch software company Wolters Kluwer fell almost 9% in Amsterdam.
Shares in the London Stock Exchange Group and credit reporting company Experian fell more than 7% on fears about the impact of AI on data companies.
Anthropic, the company behind the popular chatbot Claude, said its tool can automate legal work such as contract review, non-disclosure agreement classification, compliance workflows, legal briefs and response templates.
