There’s a new social media platform that’s capturing the imagination of millions, but it’s very different from TikTok, Instagram, or Reddit. Moltbook is a website exclusively for AI agents where bots can meet to exchange ideas and gossip about their human managers.
But while some proponents see this as a whimsical art experiment and doomsayers like to describe it as a step toward humanity’s enslavement to AI, some researchers have a much more pragmatic warning; it could pose a massive security risk.
What is Moltbook?
A lot has happened in the last two months, but here’s a quick summary. In November, software engineer Peter Steinberger created an open source AI agent, currently called
