Google Finally Makes Subtle Upgrade To Catch Up To iPhone

Google has just made a change to Gboard for Android that is starting to roll out now. It’s the little things that make a difference, and it means that when you type an apostrophe, the keyboard will automatically switch you back to the letters.

I hear you, Samsung’s default keyboard, and indeed the iPhone keyboard, have had this for a long time. But until now, things were more complicated on Gboard.

Why Typing Apostrophes Was So Clunky On Gboard

To switch from letters to punctuation meant tapping the “?123” key that sits at the bottom left of the keyboard. After you’ve tapped the apostrophe, you then needed to select the same key to get back to letters. You could also tap the space bar to achieve the same result.

With the new update, as soon as you’ve tapped the apostrophe, it snaps back to the letter keyboard…
