Smart Sprayer study confirms AI’s ability to reduce costs

A new research article from the Weed Science Society of America concludes that AI-equipped sprayers can control weeds more efficiently than traditional sprayers

WESTMINSTER, Colo., January 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ – A magazine of the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA), weed science, recently published a research article showing that smart sprayers powered by artificial intelligence (AI) can help reduce foliar herbicide use and cost for Midwest corn and soybean producers. The study examined field experiments conducted in 2022 and 2023 near Manhattan, Kansas, and in 2023 near Seymour, Illinois.

Field trials conducted in Kansas and Illinois show that smart sprayers equipped with artificial intelligence technologies can help reduce the use and cost of foliar herbicides.
