Five years ago, Oracle Corp. announced plans to purchase land along the Cumberland River to build a corporate headquarters there. The Nashville Business Journal reports that the company recently filed permits to demolish 515,000 square feet of industrial buildings, giving itself a blank slate to work with. The site covers 80 hectares and the project is expected to cost $4.5 billion. Oracle hopes to have 8,500 employees in Nashville by 2031. The company’s headquarters will remain in Austin until the Nashville buildings are completed.
Foster + Partners is leading the East Bank project planning. Until then, the company will employ its 900 Nashville employees in an office in the downtown Capital View area
Oracle must fund up to $175 million for public infrastructure as part of an incentive agreement. Oracle would recoup most or all of these expenses over 25 years through a 50% annual property tax reduction.
