Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is adding a new layer to its leadership team as it prepares for its next phase of growth. The chip giant has hired Alison Wagonfeld, the longtime head of marketing at Google Cloud, as its first ever chief marketing officer.
Wagonfeld shared the news on LinkedIn, saying she will lead marketing and communications as Nvidia enters a new chapter. She also pointed to the close partnership between Nvidia and Google, noting that collaboration between the two companies will continue. Wagonfeld will leave Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) in late January after nearly a decade with its cloud business.
She is set to start at Nvidia in February and will report directly to CEO Jensen Huang, according to The Wall Street Journal. Nvidia’s marketing and communications teams will report to her.
The hire is notable because Nvidia has traditionally let its technology speak for itself. As the company expands beyond chips into platforms, software, and services, bringing in a dedicated marketing chief suggests Nvidia is becoming more intentional about shaping its global story.
