The long-awaited killing of Windows 10 last October already seems like a distant memory. Maybe because hundreds of millions of users still refuse to upgrade, persisting with the retired operating system despite Microsoft’s raft of warnings.
The latest data suggests Windows 10 still commands almost 47% of the overall Windows market, to Windows 11’s 51%. Worryingly for Microsoft, that Windows 10 number has been growing — not shrinking — over the last three months.
That stubborn Windows 10 holdout number divides between those with PCs eligible to upgrade and those that aren’t. There are hundreds of millions of users in each of those camps. One question regularly asked is whether Microsoft will force upgrades on those with eligible PCs. No sign of that yet — but some Windows users are not so lucky.
