Amazon Web Services has expanded its hybrid cloud storage capabilities by adding support for the Nutanix AHV hypervisor to Amazon Web Services Storage Gateway, enabling organizations running Nutanix-based on-premises infrastructure to integrate more easily with AWS cloud storage.

With the update, AWS customers can now deploy Storage Gateway on Nutanix AHV environments to access Amazon S3-backed storage through file, volume and tape gateway configurations. The support applies to S3 File Gateway, Tape Gateway and Volume Gateway, extending AWS’s hybrid storage reach beyond traditional VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V deployments.

Nutanix AHV, a KVM-based hypervisor integrated into Nutanix’s hyperconverged infrastructure platform, is widely used by enterprises seeking to reduce virtualization licensing costs and simplify on-premises operations. By supporting AHV, AWS allows Nutanix customers to deploy Storage Gateway directly within their existing virtualization stack without requiring additional hypervisor platforms.

AWS Storage Gateway is designed to provide on-premises applications with low-latency access to cloud storage using standard protocols including NFS, SMB and iSCSI. The service is commonly used for backup and archiving to AWS, extending on-premises file systems to cloud-backed storage, and maintaining access to frequently used data while offloading capacity to the cloud.

The addition of Nutanix AHV support brings it in line with other supported deployment options…
