Labor rejects standalone AI legislation with plan to help ‘unfreeze’ public and private data.

The Albanian government has decided against legislation to manage artificial intelligence. A new national roadmap emphasizes Labor’s focus on the economic benefits of technology and plans to “unlock” huge data sets from private companies and the public sector to help train AI models.

Supporting and retraining workers affected by AI in the workplace, boosting investment in data centers and sharing productivity benefits across the economy are key parts of the Labor government’s National AI Plan, unveiled on Tuesday.

The document also warned of the waste of vast water and electricity resources by data centers, AI-powered abuses against women, and unanswered questions about copyright protection for artists, writers and journalists who risk having their content absorbed by large language models.
