Global cybersecurity consultancy CyXcel has outlined its predictions for the security landscape in 2026, warning of the increasing weaponization of cyberspace in state conflicts, as well as possible shifts by artificial intelligence in the development of malware that is accessible to a wider range of attackers.

According to Dr. Megha Kumar, Chief Product Officer and Head of Geopolitical Risk at CyXcel, says the role of digital threats in warfare has fundamentally changed since the conflict in Ukraine. Cyber tactics, she said, now extend far beyond the traditional uses of information disruption.
“Prior to 2022, the role of cyberspace in large-scale warfare was largely academic, with few real-world examples of interstate conflict.
