iOS 27 will reportedly focus on performance improvements and AI upgrades

After years of introducing big changes with its annual iOS releases, Apple may change its approach next time and instead focus on refinement rather than a host of flashy new features. According to Mark Gurman this week Turn on Newsletter: For iOS 27, Apple is “focused on improving the quality of the software and underlying performance.” That and strengthening its AI offering.

Following iOS 26, which brought the Liquid Glass design overhaul, and the few underwhelming AI features introduced since Apple Intelligence was introduced last year, Apple is reportedly working to improve the experience. Gurman writes that “development teams are now scouring Apple’s operating systems looking for bloat to cut, bugs to fix, and any opportunity to significantly improve performance and overall quality.” Gurman compares the strategy to the 2009 version of Snow Leopard for Mac, which focused on bug fixes, cleanup and efficiency.
