Survive & Advance: TJC holds off Cisco to move to 10-0 for first time since 1960 – Tyler Morning Telegraph

Just like March Madness, it is tournament time in the SWJCFC.

Teams have to survive and advance and that’s what happened on Saturday in Tyler.

No. 3 Tyler Junior College jumped out to a five-touchdown lead before holding off a Cisco rally to score a 35-28 win in a SWJCFC semifinal contest at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

The Apaches moved to 10-0 on the season, the first time since 1960. The Tribe will face Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (6-4) for the conference championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Tyler. Kickoff on Earl Campbell Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. TJC is seeking its first league title since 2000.

A win by TJC likely secures a spot in the national semifinals.

NEO, which is competing in its final year in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, advanced to the final with a 38-31 win over No. 9 Trinity Valley on Saturday in Miami, Oklahoma, stopping the Cardinals at the four-yard line on the final play of the game.
