A number of stocks fell in the afternoon session as investors showed signs of fatigue on the AI-fueled rally and exited highly valued growth stocks.
After a fantastic run-up, many of the successful AI and technology stocks saw investors take profits: they sold shares to protect their profits. This is often referred to as “market rotation.” The money is flowing out of the red-hot tech sector (which some fear has become too expensive) and into other parts of the market that investors may currently see as more stable or better value.
There is a second reason for the cautious mood: the long government shutdown is over. Although this is usually interpreted as good news, it also means that a flood of late economic reports will be released. For weeks, investors were “flying blind”, without important news on the economic situation such as inflation data and the labor market report.
