The UK-based Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has published what it believes is the first global professional standard for the responsible use of AI in surveying.
The standard is due to come into force on March 9, 2026 and sets out mandatory requirements and best practice expectations for RICS members and regulated firms worldwide.
It addresses the increasing integration of AI in valuation, construction, infrastructure and property services and aims to ensure that these tools are used ethically, transparently and under professional supervision.
Key provisions of the new AI-in surveying standard include:
- Governance and risk management: Companies must implement clear policies on data use, governance of AI systems and risk documentation, including the creation of risk registers and due diligence procedures.
