Amazon Web Services is actively promoting itself as a migration destination for users of its own VMware Cloud on AWS service. The offer includes $400 in cloud credits for each virtual machine migrated.
Recent rumors suggest that changes may be coming to the VMware Cloud on AWS service, with reports of Broadcom moving VMware workloads to Google Cloud instead. Sources within VMware indicate that the service may no longer be available for resale by AWS.
AWS has provided instructions on how to use its Application Migration Service Replication Agent to move VMware workloads to its Elastic Compute Cloud, with the migration procedure being valid for both VMware Cloud on AWS and VMware on-premises.
Under Broadcom’s leadership, VMware has shifted its focus to selling only four product packages, with an emphasis on Cloud Foundation. This suite allows for the creation of a single logical, software-defined data center across multiple sites. Broadcom’s VMware has promised license portability between on-premises and cloud environments, with Google Cloud being the first to take advantage of this offer. VMware and AWS have not provided further comments on the potential changes to the service.
