80.7% of Indian brands lag on visibility across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity

New Delhi: AI-powered search is beginning to influence how consumers discover and compare brands, but most companies in India still have limited visibility across these platforms.

More than 80% of brands operating in India were yet to achieve high visibility across AI-powered search platforms, according to the inaugural SearchScore.AI Discovery Index released by DareAISearch.

The report, titled The State of AI Discovery in India (Q1 FY2026-27), analysed 2,981 brands across more than 15 industries using 59,620 AI prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity during April-June 2026.

According to the study, only 19.3% of brands achieved High AI Visibility, while 80.7% remained below the benchmark.

Brands covered in the study recorded an average AI Visibility Score of 30 out of 100. The report categorised India’s overall AI Discovery Pulse as being at an “Early Stage”.

The index examined how brands appeared, were cited and were recommended across AI-powered search and discovery platforms.

The report said AI visibility varied significantly across industries and found that recommendations were increasingly concentrated among brands with stronger digital authority.

It also examined the sources cited by AI platforms while generating responses. Publishers accounted for 30% of citations, followed by communities and user-generated content at 25%, video platforms at 20%, marketplaces at 15% and reference sources at 10%.
